Denver Lasik

Lasik is a nearly painless form of surgery, performed with a laser, that has had very promising results in the cure of astigmatism, myopia, and hyperopia. People who have worn, or are starting to need to wear, glasses or contacts, may want to consider Lasik surgical correction as an alternative. It is done quickly and patients generally recover much faster from Lasik surgery than they do from other methods of eye surgery.

Although first allowed in the U.S. in 1998, Lasik is a lot older and more well established than most people realize. It was actually invented in 1950 by an ophthalmologist named Jose Barraquer, a native of Colombia. Barraquer experimented for years in order to develop the technique and, of course, other doctors have continued to build on and perfect his success. Lasik surgery basically cuts away a part of the patient’s cornea in order to shape it or reshape into a more functional state.

Denver Lasik patients will be asked to first stop wearing their contacts for a period of a week to several weeks prior to the surgery, depending on how long you’ve worn contacts. The surgeon will then measure your eye and plan the exact cuts he or she needs to make with the laser. They will then give you some antibiotics to take ahead of time.

On the day of the surgery, you will be awake (the procedure really is very painless), but you may be given a light sedative to help you relax. During the surgery, your vision will become blurry, but that’s normal.
When it’s over, Denver Lasik patients will need to take more antibiotics and use some eye drops to keep your eye from getting overly irritated as it heals. You may also need to wear sunglasses more often in order to protect against bright light. But all of this is temporary.

The end result is that Denver Lasik patients will have their vision completely restored without the need of glasses or contacts. Overall, about ninety-five percent of all Lasik patients say that they have been very pleased with the results and experienced no complications due to the procedure.
